I love working in a place that is totally focused on children and families. I think that children's hospitals do the best job of creating environments that are friendly and welcoming for families and that are sensitive to the special needs and fears that children have when coming in to a health care setting.
I like being part of a team that shares the common goal of doing the best we possibly can for each child. I truly believe that each team member respects and values the expertise of each discipline.
Everyone understands that it takes a team of people to really do the best for these kids, and no one person stands alone. I really respect the knowledge, skill and experience of my team members. I learn from them every day and it is nice to be in that situation.
Our team model is unique and highly functional. I love that our director is a pediatrician, someone who by definition is concerned with the whole child. Each child also has a craniofacial pediatrician and nurse looking at the "big picture" and working for them "from the inside" to assure coordinated, efficient, family-centered care.
I wanted to work in a children's hospital, and I wanted to be in a place that values hiring high quality individuals who are committed to helping children.
Sometimes people say "oh, that must be hard", and I really don't agree with that at all. What could be easier than doing a job that I love and can be proud of?
Here I can use all my skills, learn new things, have fantastic co-workers and work with great kids and families.
